Bank transfer times

How long a bank transfer will take depends upon what kind of bank transfer is being used and also where the money is being sent. Some transfers will require physical activities from banks and therefore the process may be slowed down, this is especially true when there are Bank Holidays.

A bank transfer which a bank customer completes themselves through an internet banking facility will usually transfer instantly. An instant transfer will occur if money is being to the same bank, to another personal account which the person holds or if the money is being transferred to a person who holds a UK bank account. Transfers will happen instantly if the sender has enough funds to cover the amount being sent.

International transfers will take longer than instant transfers, this is due to certain checks having to be made. These kinds of transfer cannot be completed online by a bank customer in most cases. A bank will have to complete the transfer on their behalf, this may include paying an administration charge as well as a sending service charge. International transfers usually take on average between five and seven days, although in some cases some bank transfers may take several weeks if going to countries with a lowly developed banking infrastructure.
