BT is part of the BT Group

BT is part of the BT Group which was established in 1846, it has become a global telecommunications company which holds its headquarters in London. BT, British Telecom, has become one of the largest telecommunications businesses within the World, it now completes transactions within 170 countries.

Numerous subsidiary businesses are located within the BT Group and these offer a range of different services. A main source of business for BT is being a major supplier of telecoms to corporate and government owned organisations. Within the BT Retail subsidiary there are numerous different core services that are offered. These services include telephone services, Internet services and most recently television services. BT Retail serves over eighteen million customers within the UK alone.

BT had previously been a publically owned company and was a major source of income for the government. Despite this, similar to many other companies BT was privatized in 1982. Parts of the business have been continually sold off by the Government and BT.

Over the last few years the business has undergone major rebranding and the range of services has grown greatly. Increased competition has squeezed the profit margins of the business in recent years.
