Can you get compensation for common assault?



CICA provides compensation to victims of serious incidents, and therefore it would be unusual for compensation to be provided for common assault. Although in some cases where the injuries are deemed serious, compensation may be paid. Anybody who feels they that they may qualify for compensation should face check that they are eligible for compensation from CICA.
Compensation will only be paid to individuals who are found to be eligible by CICA. For example compensation will only be paid within two years of the incident occurring. Victims who hold a criminal record may have a percentage of their compensation reduced if they are awarded any.
For applicants to have a better opportunity of securing a successful application they should first study all of the required information from CICA. This will include the disclosure of personal information and also detailed information relating to the incident. Some victims may find this process quite upsetting and they therefore may wish to seek assistance when completing the application form. Evidence will be required of the crime occurring, this will mean victims providing a unique police reference number, this is also known as a crime reference number. It is always a necessity for the person who assaulted the victim to have been charged or prosecuted. Any witnesses of the incident will need to be named in the application and their addresses will need to be supplied.
If any injuries occurred during the incident these will need to be named on the application form. Evidence should be supplied, such as any medication which is being taken and the contact details of the GP should be named. As well as general compensation being available there is also compensation to cover loss of earnings and also special expenses.
