Compensation for Sex Assault

A woman has been awarded compensation due to the Crown Prosecution Service failing to investigate an allegation of serious sexual assault. The woman who claimed she was attacked by a man in London will be awarded 16,000. As the case collapsed the crown prosecution service has admitted that the man should have faced a retrial. An apology has been issued by Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales. Not only this, but the crown prosecution service has also admitted that they breached the womans human rights.
The incident has strongly damaged the life of the lady involved, who was known throughout the case as Josephine. The lady has been diagnosed with post traumatic disorder and even more concerning; the lady has been left suicidal. Josephine was so deeply impacted upon that she was assured that she could provide her evidence for the case from behind a screen. Although when the court day did arrive, Josephine was informed there was not a screen and she must face the gent who assaulted her. Even the thought of this left Josephine deeply affected. When Josephine was in the witness box she accidentally revealed something about the gentlemans history, this led to the trial being stopped. Josephine then revealed that she was blamed by the prosecutors for the collapse of the case, increasing the stress and anxiety which she was already suffering after the incident in which she was involved in. Josephine was quoted as saying if you put your faith in the system, and then it falls apart it is bad enough but then to be blamed for it, it just leaves you feeling completely worthless and that nobody cares.
The CPS has now confirmed that the man should have faced a retrial and that they failed in carrying out the case correctly.
