How do I apply with the CICA online?

Once victims have researched the services of CICA and have researched whether they are eligible, they may wish to make an application. There are two ways of applying, a postal application or through using the CICA online process. Both processes are very similar, although the internet service is obviously much quicker.
The online application will take an applicant around 30 minutes to complete, this is an approximate time and relies on the applicant having all the relevant details and information with them. It is important to supply CICA with as accurate information as possible, this will help avoid any delays with the claim process. The answers provided by the applicant will be used by CICA to gain the relevant information from sources such as the police and health authorities. CICA realizes that supplying some of the information may be quite upsetting, due to this only the really relevant information is asked for.
The online process is totally secure, anybody wishing to complete an online application will be required t register on the website and then log in. As there is a log in facility it allows the applicant to come back to the application, it does not need to be completed in one go. The application form is saved automatically and will be stored securely, the application can be returned to within 60 days of the first date of the start of the application.
In order to make the application as quick as possible it may be easier for the applicant to have all of the information required. The information which will be required includes a note of contact details for any medical practitioner who has provided the victim with related treatment, the unique police reference number, the date of any court cases and the name of the offender if known. The police will supply the victim with the unique police reference number or crime reference number if it has been forgotten.
People who complete an application online will also be asked to supply a contact telephone number. This is required in case CICA need to contact the victim about their application, a phone call is usually the easiest way to make contact.
Once the application is complete CICA will assess the case and the victim will contacted in regards to the outcome. How long a decision will take varies from case to case. In some cases extra information may need to be obtained from the victim, police or health services. CICA requires all applicants to first check that they are eligible before they apply. A claim can be made within two years of an incident occurring. Only in special circumstances and with the authorization of CICA will claims be accepted outside of the two years time frame.
