The National Museum of Scotland is a prestigious centre which is very popular with tourists and researchers; the facility is located within Edinburgh. All of the collections located here hold a great heritage and there are a wide range of collections on show. Treasures from the edges of history, traces which tell the story of Scotland, fossils and also popular culture finds. Key exhibits have been collected from Scotland and beyond for generations, this centre puts all of the collected items on show enabling the general public to view the fantastic pieces. There are a wide range of collections including Viking brooches, Pictish stones, ancient chessmen, medieval oak carving and ornate quaichs, from Queen Marys clarsach to Sir Jackie Stewarts F1 car, steam engines, and spectacular silver.
The Science and Technology gallery is an extra special area which provides visitors with the opportunity to explore creativity, discovery and innovation. There are five themed areas within this gallery; these are space travel, energy and power, genetics, robotics and transport. There are certain areas which should not be missed in this gallery, these are Blast off, Power up, Me2, Robots and Move it. Blast off is a unique opportunity for visitors to step into a Gemini space suit and to find out how astronauts survive on a space walk. Visitors who enjoy this experience will have the opportunity to see a real NASA Gemini space capsule up close and also see how high a model rocket can be fired.
Power Up is the opportunity to see James Watts steam engine in action, to generate personal electricity and to find out about survival on board as an energy minister.
Visitors who use the Me2 experience will come face to face with Dolly, she is the most famous sheep in the world and visitors will find out about cloning and GM foods.
Robots is a section enjoyed by all, this section offer the worlds first artificially made intelligent robot and visitors are also able to make their own. Visitors will see a working industrial robot arm or can even control a model robot which is exploring an alien planet.
Move it, is a unique experience which provides visitors with the opportunity to try out full size racing car simulators. There is also the chance to see the worlds oldest steam locomotive and to find out about the impact of our travel choices.
Other sections which visitors can enjoy include communicate, beginnings, early people, kingdom of Scots, Scotland transformed, industry and empire, Scotland a changing nation and Sir Jackie Stewarts F1 car.
Different tours are on offer on different days and there is a wide range to choose from, anybody wishing to go on a particular tour should find out when it is happening first. The facility is open to all and all visitors are likely to find this a unique and enjoyable experience.
